California Living: and what it has taught me

I just want to start this blog off with saying that I appreciate the overwhelmingly positive response to my last post. I did stir the pot a little with a few people, but that's okay! You're never going to please everyone, and that shouldn't even matter. The whole reason I started this blog was to share my opinion and standpoint on difficult topics. Which is why I also wanted to write about this topic, because living in California has taught me so much. Many people from back home might read this and say, "Oh, she's acts better than us because she lives in California!" or "OMG, Lou switched up, she's soft now." I spent all of summer back home, so I heard it all. I'm here to tell y'all that is not true, and even if it was, California taught me that it shouldn't matter what ANYONE says about you, in the end, it is your life and you're living for yourself. Coming from such a small community in the first place, it seems as if everyone knows everyone's business. People are always being judged for something. If someone gets pregnant, everyone will talk. Spread rumors. Be hateful towards those people. People from back home are too concerned with beefing with each other and arguing over pointless things. Don't get me wrong, this used to be me before I moved away from home. Ask anyone from back home, THAT WAS ME.

However, moving out here was a huge culture shock, but I loved every second of it. I loved how everyone minded their business and let people live the way they wanted. I loved how the LGBTQ+ community in the Bay could express themselves whatever way they pleased. I loved how stoners would just walk down the street and smoke a J without anyone batting an eye. I loved how people could express themselves through clothing, without being called "weird" or "dumb" for not wearing name brand. People mind their business out here and it's a nice change.

Of course, anywhere you go, you have those people. Take Permit Patty and BBQ Becky for example, who couldn't just mind their business and allow people to simply enjoy themselves. But look at them now, they've been turned into a meme and are officially the face of racism. Please don't be Patty or Becky.

So no, California did not make me soft, but it did teach me to mind my business.

If people are genuinely happy with how they are living their lives, why do y'all feel the need to tear them down? Because you're not happy? That's not our fault, so don't take it out on us.

Worry about living YOUR life and focus on what makes you happy.

Worry about YOUR future and YOUR aspirations in life.

Don't push YOUR ambitions on anyone else, because their yours.

Let people live, because we only have one shot, and it is WAY TOO SHORT to be worrying about what other people think of you.

There is this quote that I love, that is one to live by.

"Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire"

There was a time when I was not taken advantage of. While hard to recall, this only seems like a vague memory. It was such a long time...
